The Panama Green Building Council is part of the World Green Building Council, a global union of national councils around the world to become the largest international organization influencing the market for green building.

Ours is a nonprofit organization (NGO), based on consensus, which seeks diverse representation and integrated by all sectors of the industry and whose members are a part of the concert of nations that currently represents over 50% of global activity related to the development and construction.

Our mission:
To promote sustainability in the way communities are conceived, and buildings designed, built and operated.

Our vision:
To lead the evolution of sustainable development in Central America and the Caribbean.

History

Visionary and proactive people, eager to be part of the continuous improvement of our nation, have contributed to each of the steps necessary to achieve the establishment of a robust PanamaGBC.

Timeline of our efforts and achievements:


In June 2009, began the formation of the Core Founding Group to petition the PanamaGBC to the World Green Building Council.


The group included the following individuals:

During August 2009, we informed the General Coordinator of the World Green Building Council of our intention to convey our Expression of Interest, which was accepted as is, without objection.

In September 2009, the World Green Building Council granted the PanamaGBC recognition as an Associate Council.

In October 2009, the Organizational Committee was formed.

In November 2009, the World Green Building Council granted the PanamaGBC recognition as a Prospective Council.

In December 2009, we began structuring the membership program.

In March 2010, we proceeded to call for interested potential members to serve on the PanamaGBC.

In April 2010, we proceeded to appoint a Legal Representative for the subscription and registration of the “Consejo para el Desarrollo Sustentable del Istmo” (Panama Green Building Council), with the authorities of the Republic of Panama.

In August 2010, the application period of founding members was closed, with 17 leading companies on board.

In September 2010, we proceeded to recruit staff for the development of administrative and operational tasks, and public relations.

Organization
The PanamaGBC is organized under the laws of the Republic of Panama and complies with the World Green Building Council. The Board is responsible for the management and administration of the council.

Executive Committee

The Executive Committee is headed by PanamaGBC vocals 3 and 4 of the Board, who perform key management tasks to fulfill the mission of the council.
